ZOA BRANDEIS CHAPTER BUYCOTT
Recent attempts by Meretz, Peace Now and their anti-Israel bedfellows to bankrupt Jewish Communities in Judea and Samaria through the BDS (Boycott, divestment and sanctions) Movement, must not be allowed to succeed!
The Louis D. Brandeis Chapter of the Zionist Organization of America, strategically located in the nation’s capital, has launched an internet effort to use these groups’ own boycott list against them.

This list also includes information about the products (many are very environmentally friendly, health-promoting and beneficial for both the user and the earth).

THE GIVON WINERY
The Givon Winery is located in Givon Hadasha, 5 km north of Jerusalem, Israel – an area that was the traditional wine making center in Israel more than 2700 years ago.
When the Givon Winery was founded in 2001, the Segal and Arnesti families returned to that ancient tradition of wine making with the belief that only the highest quality grapes will make the highest quality wine.
The Givon winery produces its quality wines by using the choicest grapes from the best vineyards in central Israel. Due to the unique environment for growing grapes in this area, these grapes are of an extremely high quality.
The Givon winery specializes in the production of Cabernet Sauvignon. However, success has been achieved with some uncommon varietals. For instance, in 2004, Givon produced a limited edition of Nebbiolo with positive reviews during barrel tasting by Al HaShulchan Magazine.

LIVNI WINERY VINYARDS
The Livni Winery vineyards are situated in the deep, dry ravine of Sdei Calev at an altitude of 875 meters, in the cool, fresh air of Hebron and the dry air of the Judean Desert south of Jerusalem. During the winter, temperatures go down to below-zero Centigrade (below 32 Fahrenheit), accompanied by snow. Summers are hot and dry, with Judean Desert temperatures. The ravine is replete with fruit trees, vineyards and olive orchards. In cultivating the vineyard, only environmentally friendly materials are used, to avoid tampering with the ecosystem. All this combined produces an intense dark-purple wine that has body, and a fruity flavor, with a bouquet of cherry and forest berries.
According to Bruno Darmon, Livni is producing about 10,000 bottles annually. The wines are available at selected stores in Jerusalem. Best contact for those wanting to know precisely where to n vineyards not far from Kiryat Arba, on the line where the Judean Hills meld into the Judean Desert, Menachem Livni has been raising Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz grapes since 1994. NOAH/HEVRON HEIGHTS WINERY
Nestled in the rolling Judean Hills in Qiryat Arba, overlooking the holy Jewish shrine of Marat HaMachpelah (the Tomb of the Patriarchs) sits the newly constructed Noah/Hevron Heights Winery. The Noah/Hevron Heights Winery is the brainchild and inspiration of a group of dedicated and committed French Jewish immigrants to Israel – to bring kosher winemaking back to the original site of Jewish habitation in the Land of Israel .
The Tomb of the Patriarchs is the burial place of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca and Jacob and Leah, patriarchs and matriarchs of the Jewish people. The Torah (Bible) recounts in Genesis that Abraham purchased the field and cave of Machpelah in Hevron from Ephron the Hittite in the presence of the elders of the city for a substantial sum of silver currency as a burial ground for his family. The Torah also recounts how Joseph, as Viceroy of Egypt brought his father Jacob back from there to be buried at Machpelah.
The current building housing the Tomb was constructed in the First Century C.E. by Herod the Great, King of Judea from the same Jerusalem stone quarried for the Temple and still visible at the Western Wall in Jerusalem . The Tomb is the only fully intact structure from Second Temple times over 2,000 years ago. The Tomb is considered Judaism’s second holiest site after the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
We are proud to offer a dazzling array of superb wines from the Noah/Hevron Heights Winery: Tevel wines feature the natural world – the wildlife of ancient Israel is celebrated on the front labels of the Noah/Hevron Heights Tevel wines. There are a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Merlot and a Cabernet-Merlot blend of 60 percent Cab and 40 percent Merlot. All grapes for these wines come from the Judean Hills around Jerusalem and each of these wines have been barrel aged for 12 months in new French Oak. All three are Mevushal, O-U Certified and also under the supervision of the Badatz of Yoreh Deiah and the Rabbinate of Qiryat Arba and Hevron.
The grapes for these wines have benefited from the warm sun of the Judean Mountains and the cool gentle breezes coming from the Mediterranean , allowing the fruit to reach its full potential. Look for ripe, concentrated fruit flavors with hints of berries, cherries and plums. Enjoy with roasted meats and poultry. Should retail for around $15 to $17.

The Benjamin region
The community settlement of Psagot is located on the peaks of the Benjamin region mountains, 900 meters above sea level, east of the city of Ramallah, overlooking the Wadi Kelt basin, the Jericho Valley, the Dead Sea and the Edomite Mountains. On the eastern side of the settlement, facing the breathtaking scenery, the Berg family planted vineyards and orchards. In the course of working the ground, an opening was discovered which led the family to an amazing cave from the period of the Second Temple. The cave was part of an ancient array of caves, which according to one archaeological version, equates the location with the Biblical city of Ai, one of the cities conquered by Joshua bin Nun. Slightly above the cave, a second cave was discovered in which an olive press and wine press from the Second Holy Temple era were uncovered. In the 1980s, the Berg family settled in Psagot. The father, Meir, an engineer and mathematician, planted vines for grape consumption and expanded the agricultural area to plant cherry and nectarine orchards. In 1998, he planted the first grape vineyard for wine production, 18 dunam of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The winery concept took root deeply within the son, Yaakov, and his wife Naama. In 2002, the winery was established by the young couple in the heart of the vineyard which had expanded, and it, too, grew. Today it stands on 40 dunam of wine vineyards owned by the Psagot Winery.
The ancient cave serves as a large wine barrel cellar next to impressive stainless steel tanks and other winemaking equipment. The wine passes from the stainless steel tanks to the oak wood barrels in the cave in which the wine is aged. The cave’s cooling system rarely needs to be activated, as the naturally cool conditions preserve the constant temperature, which during the winter does not go below 12 degrees Centigrade, and during the summer does not rise above 18 degrees Centigrade. The natural humidity stands at 90%.
The Psagot vineyards are planted on hard, rocky limestone terrain which is terraced in the Mediterranean Greek-Italian fashion. In order to facilitate the vine’s absorption into the ground, holes were drilled into the ground so that the vine’s roots would take hold well below the ground surface. The distance between vines is one meter, and the yield is low – about 600 kilograms per dunam. The terraced terrain makes harvesting difficult, but the 900-meter altitude and the snow which covers the vineyard in the winter compensate for the aforementioned difficult growing conditions ultimately yielding extremely high-quality grapes. The entire harvest is performed by hand in the early morning hours. The short distance between the vineyards and the winery enables the grapes to arrive at the winery within an hour from the time they are harvested.
Sunday – Thursday: 9:00 – 17:00 Friday: 10:00 – 14:00
How to get there:
The winery is situated alongside the Ma’avar Machmesh gas station on Road 60. It can be accessed from the Pisgat Zeev neighborhood in Jerusalem, via Road 437 going north, and connecting with Road 60 at the junction close to Geva Binyamin. Tourist information is available on the Binyamin tourism website: www.binyamin.org.il/?CategoryID=704
